EMPOWER San Diego co-sponsered several events as a part of our Democracy Dialogues series. These events were intended to educate voters about the local ballot initiatives in the 2010 elections. Issues included: The Strong Major Charter Amendment and the Term Limits change of County Supervisors.
Strong Mayor
What was Strong Mayor?
On June 8th, the people of San Diego voted on a reform amendment to the City Charter that would:
1. Make the Strong Mayor form of government permanent
2. Add a 9th Council District
and
3. Require a 2/3 vote of the Council to override a Mayoral veto.
On June 8th, the people of San Diego voted in favor of Proposition D, making the Strong Mayor form of government permanent. As a result, a ninth district will be added to the political boundaries of San Diego; a Citizen's Redistricting Commission is being established to redraw the borders of each respective district. We are working to ensure San Diegans are fully informed about the implications of this issue. For further information, please visit our San Diego Redistricting page.
