     The City Hall Watch Project is a group of interns and young people who are literally watching City Hall, attending City Council meetings, talking to community activists about their issues, researching challenges facing City officials, and even testifying on behalf of progressive policies. City Council Passes Tourism Marketing Expansion.

     Enacted in 2008 the Tourism Marketing District Ordinance (TMD) was meant to rake in enough revenue to help the economy by allowing hotels to charge a 2% tax. Despite serious concerns from the community about how the tax is governed, the City Council gave the TMD a 40 year extension by 7 to 1 vote.

- Home Defenders League to Battle Foreclosure -

     The newly formed Home Defenders League, made up of the alliance of Californias for Community Empowerment (ACCE), Center on Policy Initiatives (CPI) and like minded San Diegans have begun their battle against foreclosures. Their mission is to bring attention tothe issue, get more people on baord, convince the government to step in and let the banks know that their days of unchecked foreclosing are over.
